Registered Veterinary Nurse — Glasgow & Lanarkshire

£29,835 FTE (pro rata £17,901 for 22.5 hours per week) - Permanent - Part-time, Monday–Friday

Nursing at the full scope of your profession, in a welfare-led clinic

The Scottish SPCA has been protecting animals and preventing cruelty since 1839. As Scotland's animal welfare charity, we care for the animals that have suffered most - those rescued from neglect, cruelty and abandonment by our Inspectorate. As a Registered Veterinary Nurse in our team, you'll play a central part in turning that rescue into recovery.

We're looking for an RVN to join our Glasgow and Lanarkshire clinic team. It's a role with real autonomy, a clear sense of purpose, and a working pattern built to last.

What makes this role different

An RVN-led clinic that trusts your expertise. You'll carry out your own patient assessments, triage and prioritise cases, run nurse consultations, and decide what needs veterinary escalation and what sits firmly within your professional scope. Your full skillset is genuinely used here.

A truly welfare-led environment. You'll be nursing animals rescued from the most difficult circumstances in Scotland, working alongside the Inspectorate teams who bring them into our care. The work is driven by welfare, and every animal you nurse is one step closer to a new home.

A sustainable working pattern. Our clinics run Monday to Friday and close at 5.30pm, with no evening, weekend, out-of-hours or on-call commitment. You'll work a 7.5-hour day with dedicated breaks - a pattern designed to support a long and healthy career in nursing.

What you'll do

You'll work collaboratively with our wider veterinary team to assess and prioritise cases with a focus on welfare and timely rehoming. You'll run your own nurse consultations, support diagnostic and surgical work - anaesthetic monitoring, radiography, sample collection, theatre preparation and recovery - and care for our inpatients. You'll work across a wide range of species, including exotics, within a supportive team that shares knowledge and develops together.

What we offer

  • A sustainable Monday-to-Friday working pattern, with no evening, weekend or on-call working
  • 31 days annual leave rising to 38 with length of service
  • 2 dedicated Wellbeing days a year
  • A day off for your birthday
  • Life assurance 4x basic salary
  • Enhanced family leave policies
  • Company pension contribution
  • RCVS and VDS Fees paid
  • Dedicated CPD Allowance
  • Medicash benefit including employee assistance programme services.
  • Retail and gym membership discounts
  • The opportunity to do meaningful work for an organisation that exists solely for animals

What we're looking for

  • A qualified RVN (a year post-qualification experience is welcome but not essential)
  • Practical experience across a range of species
  • Experience delivering outpatient and client-facing care
  • Strong interpersonal skills and composure in difficult situations
  • A genuine commitment to animal welfare, and compliance with RCVS CPD requirements
