Are you looking for a role with purpose and where each day you can make a difference? Where you can help animals and use your skills in people management in a meaningful way? In an organisation that values you for your uniqueness and the impact only you can have?

I’m currently looking for a Deputy Head of Field Operations to join my team and if you have answered Yes to all of the above you should read on.

We are going through an exciting phase of rapid change as the animal welfare world and our understanding of the human animal bond evolves. We are redefining our purpose, but we know that at our core we will always be Scotland’s animal champions.

Maybe like us, the pandemic has made you question what you are currently doing and you too are ready to try something new. Or perhaps you have worked in the sector and been eyeing the right opportunity to join us for a while. Whatever your motivation, this role is brand new for us and as the hiring manager I don’t have any set ideas on what your background might be. I’m looking for someone who will be a supportive and coaching manager to my team. Who can champion the needs of every person, staff or volunteer, in our team as well as those of the animals in our care.

Someone who knows the importance of maintaining and improving standards, how to bring people with them and inspire others. I want to work with someone who loves working with people, including customers and supporters. Who can generate income, because you know that with every penny raised we can help more animals. And manage costs effectively, without sacrificing standards.

You are based in or near Glasgow and you like to work in different locations, visiting multiple sites in a week and meeting different people each day. You enjoy seeing the wider organisation and how everything fits together, collaborating with peers gives you the energy and ideas to drive improvements. You are naturally inquisitive and seek to understand before you judge.

We are investing in our department and introducing new ways of working, for you this means that there might be different line-management and operational responsibilities added to your role in the coming year. It also means an opportunity for you to help shape the direction of one of the world’s longest running animal welfare charities.

Your talent and experience is rewarded with a salary of £38,025 per annum, for a 37.5 hour working week. We will make sure you have the necessary kit to carry out your role and you can expect to expand your skills and qualifications as you progress your career with us.

As your line-manager I can promise you that I will be equally supportive to you as I expect you to be to the rest of our team. We will meet regularly to ensure you have all that you need to succeed in your role. You will work directly with me and your equivalent in the East/North region, and you will manage our four Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centres in the West.

I hope you to hear from you and hopefully meet you in a face to face interview soon,

Mike Ruiter

Head of Field Operations
